Cultural activities are performed through the professional cultural institutions: Cultural and Education Centre (CEC), Radio Šid, Gallery of paintings “Sava Šumanović”, the Museum of Naïve Art “Ilijanum” and the Youth Centre. Till 1990. CEC had been called the People's University “Nikola Vlaški”. Since 1990, CEC changed not only its name but also expanded its activities, thus offering a mosaic of versatile cultural activities and events.

The basic activities which make this institution recognizable are:

• Artistic and literally creative work and stage art-which includes performing theatrical, ballet and folklore shows, concerts and other types of stage art, then organization of events “The gatherings in Jastrebićevo”, “Painter's colony-on the road of Sava Šumanović”, “The days of Višnjić”, a gathering of recites, drama players, painters and other ways of amateurs expressing their cultural creative work (organization of circulating thematic exhibition in the domain of painting and other creative work).

• Publishing of books, brochures, magazines, newspapers.

• Showing movies in the cinema.

• Activities based on the membership: amateur theatre “Branislav Nušić”, association of painters “ Sava ”, literary club “Filip Višnjić”.

• Retail trade in books in the book shop “Dositej” –at the building lobby.

The Cultural and Education Centre Šid has received the highest awards: the award “December 6 th “ in the Municipality and “The Spark of Culture” in Vojvodina. Significant cultural contribution is also made by:

• The Serbian Cultural and Performance society “St. Sava”- Šid.

• The Slovakian Cultural and Performance society “Jednota” – Šid.

• The Russians Cultural and Educational society “Đura Kiš” – Šid.

• The Serbian Cultural and Performance society “Branko Radičević” – Erdevik.

• The Slovakian Cultural and Educational society “Erdevik”.



The most important persons in Šid, who also give thei contribution to the cultural creative work of the town are: Sava Šumanović, Ilija Bašičević-Bosilj and Simeon Piščević.
